The 'blast shield' serves two purposes - provides some extra protection in the event of a fault condition with the
smoothing capacitors, and prevents children poking metallic objects (e.g., table knife) through the slots in the lid of
the chassis and contacting anything they shouldn't.
It consists of 6mm polycarbonate sheet so should, hopefully, be pretty tough.

I've endeavoured to make the amp as safe as possible - every 'connection of significance' (i.e. mains and power supply
connections) is either shrouded or covered. I'd like to think
that if a small child or a cat was placed on top of the live amp, with the lid removed, that neither child/cat nor amp
would come to any harm. Not that I'm planning on testing this theory!
